On August 16, after economic reports showed stronger-than-expected retail sales last month and an unexpected jump in wholesale prices, Daly, the chairperson of the San Francisco Federal Reserve, the 2027 FOMC voting committee, hinted in an interview that she was still prepared to start easing policy as early as next month. Daly said the job market is softening, the economy is slowing, but not slowly, and compared to inflation, which is still above the Fed's target, "there will be a case for a few rate cuts at some point this year." "We'll wait for more data, maybe less, maybe more, but ultimately, I think two rate cuts this year are still a good prediction." "What I don't want to do is worry so much about inflation possibly rising again or continuing that we're waiting for that to clear up without supporting the labor market."
