According to Cointelegraph, New York State Assemblyman Phil Steck introduced Bill 8966, which proposes to impose a 0.2% excise tax on the sale and transfer of cryptocurrencies and NFTs, and the tax will be used for special projects to prevent drug abuse in schools.
Before the bill can take effect, it needs to be approved by the state legislature committee, then submitted to the full assembly for a vote and finally signed by the governor. If passed by September 1, the bill will take effect immediately and could generate significant tax revenue for New York state.
