According to Scam Sniffer, cryptocurrency users lost more than $1.60 million to address poisoning attacks this week, more than the entire month of March combined.
One victim lost 140 Ethereum (about $636,500) on Friday when he made a mistake copying addresses from tainted transfer histories. "The user basically sent 140 Ethereum to a similar address that was planted in the transfer history due to a copy-paste error," the Scam Sniffer team said. They added that "his transfer history is rife with poisoned address attacks, so it was only a matter of time before he got scammed."
Another victim lost $880,000 worth of cryptocurrency to address poisoning on Sunday, while other alerts also revealed that another user lost $80,000 and another lost $62,000.
Since Sunday, scammers have defrauded more than $1.60 million in this way, according to Cointelegraph aggregating alert data from cyber security firm, a figure that exceeds the $1.20 million total lost to address poisoning in March.
