Fed Goolsbee: It will take months of favorable inflation data to get the comfort level needed to cut interest rates

GOOLSBY, Federal Reserve: Some important data will be released before the Fed's September meeting, but that doesn't mean I can't make a decision at that time. Given the levies on semiconductors, and the new tariff announcements, the jitters over tariffs are viewed as a one-off inflationary shock. We've had a couple of months of moderate inflation so far; the latest CPI data shows that services inflation is a concern. It will take months of favorable inflation data to get the comfort level needed for a rate cut.
