Ukraine's allies "may consider easing sanctions on Russia after ceasefire"

Sources close to the European Union Commission president say Ukraine's allies are evaluating a gradual easing of sanctions on Russia if a comprehensive ceasefire can be agreed. Sources add that sanctions will be reimposed if there is a breach of the agreement. They want an immediate 15-day ceasefire (during which time sanctions will remain in place) before the conflict in Ukraine can be more organised. Separately, Italian government sources say they will push for Trump to involve Europe in his discussions with Ukraine when he has a video call with Putin later today. "He has been asking European countries to increase their military spending, so we have to be involved in these decisions," an Italian diplomat explained. The source added that on the phone, Italy will stress the need for clear military, economic and political guarantees for Ukraine. (Sky News)
