Deutsche Bank: Trump's attacks on US institutions pose a threat to the dollar

Michael Pfister, an analyst at Commerzbank, said in a note that Mr. Trump's attacks on the Federal Reserve and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics posed a threat to the dollar's prospects. Mr. Trump on Tuesday repeated his criticism of Federal Reserve chairperson Jerome Powell for not lowering interest rates. Mr. Trump also threatened to sue Mr. Powell over the expensive renovation of the Fed's Washington headquarters. On Monday, Mr. Trump nominated economist Anthony, a conservative think-tank, to replace the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, whom he fired earlier this month. "Increasingly, this is reminiscent of repressive countries where the head of a statistical agency or central bank is being replaced," Mr. Pfister said. "And that's not good for the dollar."
