Ethereum core developer Federico Carrone (nicknamed "Fede's Intern" for the X platform) has confirmed that he has been released after being detained in Turkey for 24 hours in connection with an Ethereum privacy agreement.
"I am finally out, safe and free. For a short time it looked very bad, but with the help of many people, I was able to be released," Carrone said in an X post on Monday.
According to Carrone, Turkey's interior minister accused him of "helping others to misuse Ethereum", which he said was linked to a privacy agreement. Carrone said he believed the matter was related to a research paper he published in January 2022 evaluating user privacy on Ethereum and Tornado Cash.
"We have never helped anyone engage in illegal activities, this is purely research on mixers and their characteristics," Carrone said.
