Satoshi Labs founder Alena Vranova has warned of an increase in wrench attacks, personal attacks, and kidnappings targeting bitcoin, as well as attempts to steal the private keys of cryptocurrency holders.
"Every week, at least one Bitcoin user in the world is kidnapped, tortured, blackmailed, and sometimes worse," Vranova told an audience at the Baltic Honey Badger 2025 conference in Riga, Latvia. Meanwhile, "what seems to be a problem for the original Bitcoin (OG) is not. We've seen people kidnapped for $6,000 in cryptocurrency, and we've seen people murdered for $50,000 in cryptocurrency."
"Currently, we have more than 80 million bitcoin and crypto user identities leaked online; 2.20 million of them contain home addresses," Vranova said.
