On August 10, the United Kingdom, Denmark, France, Greece and Slovenia (E5) issued a joint statement on the situation in Gaza at the UN Security Council on August 10 local time, strongly condemning the Israeli government's decision to further expand military operations and calling on Israel to immediately withdraw the decision. The statement warned that this plan may violate international humanitarian law and will further endanger the lives of civilians and hostages in Gaza, worsening the humanitarian crisis. The statement reiterated that any annexation or expansion of settlements is illegal. The statement stressed that expanding military operations will not help the release of hostages, but will make their situation more dangerous. At the same time, the risk of famine in Gaza is increasing, children are dying from starvation, and many civilians have to risk their lives to find food at aid distribution points. The five European countries called on Israel to lift restrictions on aid shipments, lift unreasonable visa and registration requirements for international Non-governmental organizations, and open all land routes to ensure the entry of essential goods such as food, medicine, fuel, and clean water into Gaza. The statement concluded by calling on all parties to immediately reach a permanent ceasefire, release all hostages, and accelerate the "two-state solution" to achieve long-term peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians.
