On August 9, during their meeting next week, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will discuss a peace plan that would see Ukraine cede land newly controlled by Russian forces to Russia. Putin handed the plan to them during a meeting with US envoy Witkov in Moscow earlier this week. According to a source in the Ukrainian president's office, the plan would see Kiev withdraw its troops from two partially occupied regions of Ukraine, Donetsk and Luhansk. As a "gesture of goodwill", Russia would withdraw its troops from the northeastern Kharkiv region and Sumy region, where Russian forces control some areas. Putin told Witkov that Russia is satisfied with the existing demarcation line between the southern Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, where it controls most of the territory but cannot control the regional capitals. < b > According to sources in the Ukrainian presidential office, the plan will be rejected outright by Ukraine.
