White House officials have confirmed that Billy Long, a former Missouri congressman who has been criticized by Democratic lawmakers for his lack of tax policy experience, will step down as director of the Internal Revenue Service less than two months after taking office, and that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant will take over as director of the agency. In his second term, Trump has replaced several IRS leaders and cut the number of tax enforcers who were funded under Biden.
