Christoph Schon of SimCorp said the market may be underestimating the possibility of a Fed rate hike. His view is that another unexpected rise in the measure will be impossible in order to achieve the 2.6 per cent core PCE inflation rate the Fed projected in March by the end of the year. If inflation continues to be unexpectedly above average, I don't know how to get there again, he said.
The Federal Reserve will update its economic forecasts in June, but based on the current outlook and past data, ruling out one or more rate hikes can only be done "on very optimistic assumptions."
