Milan has criticized officials with political affiliations for their difficulty in remaining neutral at the Federal Reserve

Matt Grossman, a market analyst, said Mr. Trump had nominated Stephen Millan, who last year publicly criticised the difficulty of politically connected officials remaining neutral on the board, to be the candidate for the Fed board until the end of January. Mr. Millan's assessment of Mr. Gulsby - a former Obama administration official - called into question whether he could really put politics behind him, calling his credibility on the board questionable. Mr. Millan's assessment of Mr. Gulsby now sounds more like a "self-accusation" of his own possible partisanship. "Pretending to be able to switch easily between highly politicised and supposedly non-politicised roles without allowing political biases to influence policymaking is naive at best and ulterior motives at worst," he wrote at the time.
