On August 7th, investment bank Salomon Brothers announced that it has completed the process of inserting OP_Return notice to bitcoin wallets that are considered "abandoned", reminding holders to claim their assets as soon as possible. According to its official website, wallets that have not been used for more than 14 years may be considered "legal abandonment", sparking discussions about its potential seizure methods. Some comments called its actions "smart but controversial". The company has issued notices to some famous addresses, such as the "1Feex" wallet holding 80,000 BTC.
