Mr. Trump said he was likely to nominate an interim Fed governor to fill the vacant seat in the next few days, rather than using the opportunity to signal in advance his pick for the next Fed chairperson. "We will probably appoint an interim and then we will have a formal pick," Mr. Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday. "I think an interim pick will be announced in the next two or three days and then we will have a formal pick." Mr. Trump said he was considering "probably" three people for the job, possibly from Wall Street. He added that commerce secretary Lutnik, Treasury secretary Vincent Bessant and vice-president Vance were among the advisers involved in the process. Mr. Trump reiterated that he still saw Kevin Walsh, a former Fed governor, and Kevin Hassett, director of the National Economic Council, as leading candidates when the chairpersonship became vacant.
