Strategists at Pictet Asset Management said in a note that the yen is at risk of depreciating against the dollar. Political and economic uncertainty could weigh on the yen, they said. Japan's upper house elections last month raised the risk of a hung parliament. Government bonds are also under pressure amid fears that public borrowing could increase. This could prompt the Bank of Japan to withdraw its quantitative tightening policy, which is not good for the yen. They said the dollar's weakness so far this year has also been excessive, so it should experience a period of consolidation. (Jin Ten)
