Coinbase's second-tier Ethereum blockchain Base experienced a 33-minute block generation outage on Tuesday after switching to a backup sorter that was not properly set up to process transactions.
The incident began at 6:07 a.m. UTC, when active sorters began to experience lags in block generation, prompting a sorter switch in Conductor, Base's system for managing sorter availability and reliability.
However, Base Build's X account said in a post on Tuesday that the system had switched to an "unhealthy mainnet sorter" that was still in the setup phase and therefore unable to generate blocks.
