Hester Peirce, Commissioner of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), delivered a speech at the Blockchain Science Conference, calling on regulators to protect the rights of individuals to conduct private transactions. She made it clear that developers of open-source privacy software should not be held responsible for the use of their code by others. In the context of the impending sentencing of the case of TornadoCash co-founder RomanStorm, Peirce emphasized that privacy protection technologies, cryptocurrency self-custody rights, and the rights of open-source privacy software developers should all be protected. She further pointed out that, just as cryptographers fought in the 1990s to defend the private use of strong encryption technologies, these technologies are of great significance to the development of society.
