Texas to Arrest Democratic Congressman for "Fleeing"

On August 5th, according to CNN, the Texas House of Representatives today passed a motion authorizing the Speaker to issue civil arrest warrants to detain Democratic lawmakers who did not attend a special session. Dozens of Democratic lawmakers left Texas en masse yesterday to try to block congressional gerrymandering plans. The motion specifically authorizes "conference guards or officials designated by them to bring back all members who are absent without authorization in order to ensure their attendance upon warrant if necessary". The motion was finally passed by 85 votes in favor and 6 votes against, and Speaker Dustin Burrows announced the result of the vote. As of press time, the governor of Texas has ordered the arrest of Democrats who have fled the state.
