Yaroslav Vasinskyi, also known as Rabotnik, a Ukrainian citizen associated with the REvil ransomware group, was sentenced to 13 years and seven months in prison for his role in carrying out more than 2,500 ransomware attacks and demanding more than $700 million in ransom, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday. In addition, Rabotnik was ordered to pay more than $16 million in restitution.
Previously, Rabotnik was extradited from Poland to the United States and pleaded guilty to 11 counts of "conspiracy to commit fraud and other computer-related activities, damage to protected computers, and conspiracy to launder money."
