Ripple, in collaboration with CB Insights and the UK Blockchain Technology Center, has released a new report noting that Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Japan's SBI Group have become the most active players in the traditional financial sector backing blockchain startups.
Global banks participated in 345 investments in blockchain companies between 2020 and 2024, the majority of which were in the early stage of funding. Citigroup and Goldman Sachs led the way with 18 investments each, followed by JPMorgan Chase and Mitsubishi UFJ with 15 investments each. The banks participated in 33 such funding rounds over four years, putting money into companies focused on trading infrastructure, tokenization, custody, and payment solutions.
