Patrick Gruhn, the former head of FTX Europe, paid nearly $1.50 million for a gold pocket watch recovered from the Titanic's wealthiest passenger. Gruhn says he used money he made from selling the company and was unaware of FTX fraud before it broke out.
Patrick Gruhn said he used the money he earned from selling the company to buy the watch for his wife and said they would display it in a museum.
In July 2023, FTX's bankruptcy estate petitioned the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to order the recovery of more than $323.50 million from FTX's European leadership. Later, as part of the settlement, Gruhn and others agreed to buy back FTX's European assets for about $33 million. Grohn also said he was unaware of the FTX fraud until it broke out.
