UK retail investors will soon be able to buy cryptocurrency exchange-traded notes (cETNs) under new rules from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) that will come into force on October 8. cETNs must be listed on FCA-approved UK trading platforms and comply with financial promotion and consumer responsibility rules. While retail users are allowed to use cETN, it will not be covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority previously banned retail investors from accessing crypto ETNs in 2021, citing concerns about investor protection.
