On Thursday evening local time, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing tariffs ranging from 15% to 41% on goods exported to the United States from 67 trading partners, raising the tariff level to its highest level in more than a century.
However, the new tariffs will not take effect until Aug. 7, instead of the previous Aug. 1 date, giving countries another window to try to negotiate lower tariffs. "This is historic, this is a new trading system, and this is what I call the Trump Round," a senior administration official said. White House officials said late Thursday that they hope to reach more deals with countries before the Aug. 7 date for the new tariffs to be implemented. (Kim X)
