SEC Chairperson: Most Crypto Assets Are Not Securities, Has Directed Clear Rules and Implementation of White House Cryptocurrency Recommendations

SEC Chairperson Atkins said policy departments will be directed to work with the cryptocurrency task force to implement the White House's cryptocurrency-related recommendations. Commission staff have been directed to draft clear rules for the allocation, custody and trading of cryptocurrencies. Most cryptoassets are not securities. Commission staff have been directed to develop guidelines for determining when cryptoassets are securities. Staff have been asked to propose disclosure requirements and exemptions for cryptoassets that are identified as securities, and staff have been asked to work with companies seeking to issue tokenized securities.
