Trump: Agreed to extend interim deal with Mexico for 90 days, Mexico agreed to end numerous non-tariff trade barriers

On July 31st, President Trump of the United States: I just had a very successful phone conversation with President Shinbaum of Mexico, and the understanding and mutual trust between us are constantly deepening. We agreed to extend the previous short-term agreement for 90 days. The content of the agreement is completely consistent, that is, Mexico will continue to pay 25% tariffs on fentanyl, 25% tariffs on automobiles, and 50% tariffs on steel, aluminum, and copper. In addition, Mexico also agreed to immediately remove a large number of non-tariff trade barriers that it previously established. Over the next 90 days, we will continue to negotiate a trade agreement with Mexico, with the goal of reaching a formal agreement during this period, or longer. We will continue to cooperate on border matters, including drugs, drug trafficking, and the entry of illegal immigrants into the United States.
