According to Cointelegraph, the jury will decide the fate of Roman Storm, co-founder of cryptocurrency mixing service Tornado Cash, after the prosecution and defense completed their closing arguments on Wednesday. Closing arguments are the final stage of the trial, in which the prosecution and defense summarize the case before a judge or jury, state their positions, and make a last-ditch effort to persuade the adjudicator to reach a favorable verdict.
Storm is currently on trial in federal court for the Southern District of New York in a case that could set a legal precedent for how much developers should be held responsible if the decentralized software they create is used illegally.
U.S. prosecutors have charged Storm with conspiracy to launder money, violate U.S. sanctions, and operate an unlicensed money transfer business.
If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in prison. The judge has issued final instructions to the jury, which is now considering the case.
