Tesla has abandoned ambitious plans to innovate in its pioneering gigacasting (all-in-one die-casting) process, according to two sources quoted by foreign media late Wednesday night Beijing time, in another sign that it is cutting expenses amid falling sales and intensifying competition. Tesla has been a leader in gigacasting, a cutting-edge technology that uses a huge press to die-cast the main part of a car's chassis with thousands of tons of pressure. Tesla has opted to stick to the more mature three-stage body casting method, which is used in the company's two recent new models, the Model Y and Cybertruck pickups, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
