According to a new Gallup survey conducted June 2-15, about 14 percent of U.S. adults say they own cryptocurrencies, but the majority say they have no interest in buying them. Despite a slight increase in digital asset holdings since 2021, the majority of Americans still see digital assets as a venture capital investment. The survey shows that ownership of cryptocurrencies is more prevalent among men under the age of 50, with 25 percent of men saying they own bitcoin or other digital currencies. Additionally, cryptocurrency holdings are higher among college graduates (19 percent), high-income adults (19 percent), and political conservatives (18 percent). In contrast, only 7% of adults 65 and older said they own some form of cryptocurrency. Seventeen percent of Americans said they are interested in cryptocurrency but do not plan to invest in it in the near future; only 4 percent said they are likely to buy it in the near future. Sixty percent said they have no plans to invest in cryptocurrency at all.
