San Francisco-based lender Divine Research has issued about 30,000 unsecured short-term cryptocurrency loans since December, using OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's iris scanning platform World ID to verify borrower identities.
Divine Research, which offers USDC stablecoin loans of less than $1,000 to underserved overseas borrowers, uses World ID to ensure that users cannot open multiple accounts if they default. Borrowers include high school teachers, fruit vendors and other ordinary people, according to Diego Estevez, founder of the company.
