According to US media reports, Americans can now donate to the Treasury Department through Venmo and PayPal if they wish to pay off the national debt. Over the past 29 years, Americans have donated a total of $67.30 million, but it has had little material impact on the current national debt of up to $36.70 trillion. A screenshot posted by an NPR reporter on X on Wednesday shows a page on the Treasury Department's website where Venmo and PayPal can donate to the national debt program. According to Axios, Venmo's single donation limit is $999,999.99, and even if you donate at that amount, you need to donate every 18 seconds to keep up with the growth of the national debt. It is unclear when the Venmo and PayPal donation options will be added to the website.
