Musk's Neuralink joins bionic eye research

Neuralink, Musk's brain-computer interface company, is working with researchers in California and Spain on a clinical trial to study visual prostheses. News of Neuralink's participation in the trial was disclosed in late July on ClinicalTrials, a government website that lists medical research. The study was sponsored by the University of California, Santa Barbara. According to online descriptions, the goal of the study is to "solve fundamental problems that enable the development of intelligent bionic eyes." The researchers said the device would use artificial intelligence and could help blind people recognize faces, navigate outdoors, read, and more.
