Mr. Trump sent mixed signals about dollar policy on Friday, stressing that he would "never support a weak dollar" while talking up the economic benefits of a low exchange rate for US manufacturing. "I would never say I like a low exchange rate. I'm the kind of person who likes a strong dollar, but a weak dollar makes you more money." The comments came amid widespread speculation in foreign exchange markets that his administration was actively seeking a weaker dollar. Asked if he was concerned about the dollar's continued decline, Mr. Trump responded that "I'm a person who likes a strong dollar", but then added that "I'm not going to stay up all night." Mr. Trump also singled out manufacturing companies that were benefiting from a weak dollar. " A strong dollar has a consequence. It looks good, but no one comes to travel, you can't sell factories, trucks, anything. A strong dollar is good for controlling inflation, that's all. And we don't have inflation at all, we've got it out of the way. "
