Federal Reserve staffers gave reporters a tour of the $2.50 billion renovation of the central bank's headquarters, hours before U.S. President Donald Trump is due to tour the project, which he and his allies have slammed as wasteful and extravagant. Trump and other Republicans have put increasing pressure on Federal Reserve Chairperson Jerome Powell over the renovation in recent weeks, questioning the project's growing budget and launching a review of Powell's testimony on the renovation in the Senate last month. Thursday's tour gave reporters a glimpse of the inner workings of the construction site, where about 700 to 800 workers work in shifts every day, Federal Reserve staffers said. Reporters also toured the roof of the Eccles building. Republicans have questioned a National Capital Planning Commission document on the renovation project, which refers to a "rooftop garden terrace" that provides seating areas for (Federal Reserve) employees.
