Trump allies sue Powell, demanding FOMC meet publicly

An investment firm led by a supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump is suing Federal Reserve Chairperson Jerome Powell and other Fed officials to demand that the central bank hold its monetary policy meetings in a public manner. Azoria Capital, a firm owned by U.S. investor James Fishback, said in a lawsuit filed Thursday that the FOMC's decades-long practice of meeting behind closed doors violated the Government Transparency Act. < b > The fund filed in a federal court in Washington to demand that the Fed meet in public on July 29-30. "Azoria is deeply concerned that, under Powell's leadership, the FOMC has maintained high interest rates that undermine President Trump and his economic agenda and harm American citizens and the U.S. economy," the company said in the lawsuit.
