MIT graduate brother manipulates Ethereum MEV robot to steal $25 million cryptocurrency, judge dismisses request to drop case

According to Cointelegraph, U.S. District Judge Jessica Clarke denied brothers Anton and James Peraire-Bueno's request to drop the lawsuit, finding that their theft of the $25 million cryptocurrency by manipulating the Ethereum network MEV bot constituted wire fraud. The MIT graduate brothers completed this unprecedented exploit in just 12 seconds, using a four-step plan of "Bait, Block, Search, and Spread" to set up 16 Ethereum validators to execute the plan. Although the brothers argued that their actions complied with the system code rules, the judge found that the government had sufficiently charged them that their actions met the fraud standard. The case is currently in the pre-trial motion stage and is expected to go to trial in October 2025.
