The US court has ruled that NFTs can be protected by trademarks, and the case of Yuga Labs v. Ryder Ripps will be reheard

In a key ruling in Yuga Labs' dispute with artist Ryder Ripps, the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals made it clear for the first time that NFTs were "commodities" under the Lanham Act and could legally be protected as trademarks. The court rejected most of Ripps' defenses, but reversed the $8 million compensation previously awarded to Yuga and remanded the case to the district court to determine whether Ripps' "copycat BAYC" NFTs were causing consumer confusion.
