According to Decrypt, researchers at cyber security firm c/side have reported that malicious Monero XMR mining software has attacked multiple websites, and a wave of cryptojacking has re-emerged, with at least 3,500 websites running maliciously injected hidden Monero mining scripts.
Unlike traditional cryptojacking, these malicious software avoids the obvious features of traditional cryptojacking by limiting CPU usage and hiding traffic in WebSocket streams. Hackers follow a "keep your head down, mine slowly" strategy to target unpatched websites and e-commerce servers.
