The Brazilian mining industry has warned of severe economic consequences if the government takes reciprocal tariffs in retaliation for US President Donald Trump's threat to impose 50% tariffs since August 1.
Raul Jungmann, head of Brazil's mining association Ibram, said that if Mr. Trump followed through on his threats and Brazil took such countermeasures, the mining sector would face additional costs of up to $1 billion a year. Brazilian mining executives are considering opening talks with US companies to push the Trump administration back to the negotiating table.
