ConsenSys: There is a serious bug in MetaMask that causes SSD overwriting, and a fix will be released soon

ConsenSys has confirmed that there is a serious bug in its MetaMask browser extension, which causes users to write data to solid-state drives (SSDs) at an unusually high frequency, up to 500GB per day, accumulating up to 25TB in three months, seriously shortening the service life of SSDs. The problem mainly affects users of Chromium kernel browsers such as Chrome and Edge, and will continue to write in the background even if they do not use a wallet. Some users reported that this bug has consumed about 50% of the life of their SSDs. ConsenSys said it is aware of the problem and is actively investigating. A fix is "coming soon" and will reduce the frequency of data writes and the number of data acquisitions.
