On July 18th local time, the European Union Council voted to approve the proposed amendment to the gas storage regulation. According to the proposal, the current requirement of European Union member states to maintain sufficient natural gas reserves before winter will be extended for another two years. The European Union's move is intended to reduce the risk of natural gas price fluctuations caused by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, while trying to find a balance between ensuring energy security and restoring market mechanisms.
