According to Decrypt, former semi-professional football player Shane Donovan Moore has been sentenced to 2.5 years in federal prison for running a fake cryptocurrency mining scheme. Between January 2021 and October 2022, Moore defrauded more than 40 investors and defrauded them of more than $900,000 through Quantum Donovan LLC. He promised investors 1% of the daily mining proceeds, but in fact used the funds to buy luxury apartments, luxury goods and electronic products and other personal expenses, while paying small returns to early investors in a Ponzi model to maintain the scam.
