US lawmakers express high concern over the use of cryptocurrencies to evade sanctions

U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Roger Marshall expressed concerns about the stablecoin Tether in a letter sent over the weekend to officials including U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. The letter said they were highly concerned about the reliance of countries such as Russia, Iran, and North Korea on cryptocurrencies to evade sanctions, and that the national security threat posed by cryptocurrencies requires a corresponding response from the U.S. defense community. Tether said he worked with law enforcement to track assets and apprehend criminals.
