Meta Platforms Inc. is likely to face off with the European Union again after 200 million euro ($232 million) fines failed to bring Facebook and Instagram into compliance with the European Union's strict new digital regulations. The European Union Commission said it sent a letter to the social networking giant last week warning that Meta's paid or consent services - where users pay for an ad-free experience - needed further adjustments. If Meta fails to meet the demands of European Union Competition Commissioner Teresa Ribera and Digital Policy Commissioner Henna Virkkunen's team, the procedural step could pave the way for the European Union to issue a formal warning and eventually a periodic fine. In April, Meta was fined for violating the Digital Markets Act for the first time.
