The criminal trial of Roman Storm, co-founder and developer of Tornado Cash, officially began Monday in Manhattan federal court. A jury will decide whether he knowingly and assisted in the laundering of more than $1 billion in cryptocurrency, including money linked to the North Korean Lazarus hacking group.
Roman Storm faces charges of conspiracy to launder money, violating US sanctions and operating an unlicensed money transfer business. If convicted on all counts, he could face up to 45 years in prison. He has pleaded not guilty. The trial is expected to last four weeks.
