A New Zealand woman accused of murdering her elderly mother was suspected of running a cryptocurrency "exit scam" days before she was killed, withdrawing thousands of dollars in fake trading gains while losing more than $40,000 in cryptocurrency and bitcoin investments in the previous year, prosecutors said Monday.
Julia DeLuney is on trial in Wellington High Court for the murder of her 79-year-old mother, Helen Gregory, at Gregory's home in Khandallah on January 24, 2024.
Prosecutors accused Delouni of faking the scene to make it look like his mother had fallen from the attic, but forensic experts determined that fatal injuries such as multiple blunt force wounds to the victim's head did not match the characteristics of a fall.
