Roman Storm, the co-founder of cryptocurrency mixing service Tornado Cash, who faces trial on Monday on charges of money laundering and violating sanctions laws, posted an urgent request for assistance on social platform X on Saturday, hoping to raise $500,000 in the next few days. Storm said he is currently facing a "serious funding shortfall" and that in addition to the emergency funding, he will need an additional $1 million in the next few weeks to pay for legal proceedings.
He added: "My team is working non-stop to defend code as a right to free speech, to protect software development and to fight against excessive government interference that threatens us all."
