Auditor: Experts say the US election system still lacks key cryptographic security measures

Former voting machine auditor Michal Pospieszalski has warned that there are still serious security bugs in the US election system that have been discovered since 2006 but have not been fixed. As CEO of blockchain security firm MatterFi, he pointed out that current voting machines lack end-to-end encryption proofs to prevent ballots from being double-counted or verify their legitimacy. Pospieszalski suggested adopting a solution based on David Chaum encryption technology, adding an anonymous serial number to each ballot to ensure uniqueness without introducing complex blockchain technology. He said such improvements could be achieved through software upgrades, but would require legislation to push voting machine manufacturers to take action. Meanwhile, New York State has proposed a bill to study the application of blockchain technology to election security.
