US President Donald Trump has said he will impose a 25 per cent tariff on imports from Japan from August 1. Hidetoshi Tadai, chief economist at Unlimited Contracts Japan, said: The 25 per cent tariff, once widely applied to other categories of goods, would be a fatal blow to Japanese manufacturers in almost all industrial sectors. In fact, the impact is already starting to show. At present, many small and medium-sized enterprises that make parts for large enterprises have cut off orders, and the problem is no longer "may happen", but "is happening". This will deal a devastating blow to the overall Japanese economy. Recently, the May Directional Movement Index released by the Cabinet Office of Japan showed that the overall assessment of the economic situation turned "worse" for the first time since July 2020, indicating that the possibility of Japan's economy in a recession is high.
