According to Blockworks, Coinbase has recently completed a talent acquisition for Opyn CEO Andrew Leone and his head of research, Joe Clark. Leone and Clark will now join the OnchainMarkets team, which operates within Coinbase's institutional organization and focuses on validated pools and other development initiatives focused on on on-chain market products.
According to Coinbase officials, the Opyn team has been dedicated to building the DeFi space since the early days; they are the developers of the first DeFi option protocol, the inventors of PowerPerpetuals, and the team behind Squeeth. The team has deep on-chain technical expertise, a deep understanding of traditional market structures, and hands-on experience building decentralized products from scratch, which is rare in the industry. Talent acquisition was chosen because the company's operating model is build/acquire/partner/invest. Each path depends on what we believe will have the most impact - whether through technology, market influence, or talent.
